Lovely Lubrín, Almeria
Casa Giles is based right in the heart of this gorgeous whitewashed Spanish village in Almeria, Andalucia. Surrounded by the hills and mountains of the region, we’re still only 40 minutes to the beautiful Costa de Almeria with it’s white sand beaches, undiscovered coves and the breathtaking national park of Cabo de Gata.
With three or four bar/restaurants in the village you'll have somewhere to grab a coffee, a cold beer, a glass of wine and some tapas. There's two small supermarkets, a baker, an ATM and two small butchers. We even have fish trucks visiting twice a week! The busy and popular weekly market every Wednesday is where you can pick up fresh fruit and veggies. This is generally a peaceful village unless there's a 'fiesta' on when there will be live music in the main square late into the night.
Don't forget that Almeria is an extremely warm, dry and sunny region so pack the suncream! During the summer months (late June to the end of August), the village's municipal pool is open at the top of town where you can escape the heat with a swim or just relax under the pine trees for a few hours.
There is limited public transport in the region so we strongly suggest hiring a car when you’re here. That way, you can explore the other villages, the sierras (mountains) and the coastline if you can drag yourself away from the sun terrace and the village!
Things to do in Almería
Whether it's relaxation or action, sun or sand, you won't be bored...
Walking (or trail running) and cycling - the area is perfect for both with plenty of popular cycling routes both on and off-road and loads of senderos (walkways) all around the mountains and the coastline. If you wander along Lubrín’s rambla, you could find yourself some 10km up in the hills with just some goats for company!
Visiting Almeria city is well worth considering while you’re here. It’s lovely coastline, imposing Moorish Alcazaba and the lovely little old town make it a very memorable city to visit or stay in with plenty of bars and restaurants offering a variety of tapas (and more).
Explore the desert and cowboy country? You heard right! We’re just half an hour from the area of Tabernas, the only real desert in Western Europe, and it’s been made famous by films such as Indiana Jones, Game of Thrones and the spaghetti westerns such as The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (and many more.) In fact, you can visit one of two or three western theme parks where you can watch a show, visit a ‘real life’ cowboy town or even take the kids to visit the zoo or swim in the pool areas.
The beautiful Cabo de Gata natural park is less than an hour's drive away and offers snorkelling, kayaking and a chance to see flamingos in their natural habitat of the salt flats of the area (there's also flamingos in Vera - just half an hour down the road).
The popular beach resort of Mojacar Playa (Mojacar Beach) is just a 40 minute drive away with plenty of bars, chiringuitos, and restaurants serving seafood, tapas and cold drinks. You can also hire sun loungers for the day or party the night away at one of the beach clubs here.
Keen to see the cities of Andalucia? Granada is just two hours west of Lubrín, Malaga around three hours south west and the gorgeous cities of Seville and Cordoba are a bit further west again (at 4-5 hours driving time).

You have four airports to choose from to reach Lubrín village and, therefore, Casa Giles!
Almeria Airport (LEI) - less than an hour by car.
(This is the closest)
Murcia Airport (RMU) is around a 1h45 drive.
Granada Airport (GRX) is just over two hours away. Alicante Airport (ALC) is about 2h15 from us.
Malaga Airport (AGP) is about 3h10 driving time.
